The MOST Epic Northern Lights in 2024. Scientists are saying that 2024 is supposed to be an EPIC year for Northern Lights viewing! Solar activity is supposed to peak this year and bring some of the most spectacular aurora shows the world has seen in over two decades! There is obviously no guarantee because we are at the mercy of Mother Nature – but, there’s a really freakin’ good chance!

Iceland was such an amazing experience! I definitely made some great connections and unbelievable memories! The best part was finally seeing the northern lights dance above us! I can’t express the emotions we had sitting on a blanket with new friends and great wine! We stayed out there for hours just taking it all in! The waterfalls were also so surreal….. for someone who has never seen a real waterfall in person, it was amazing to take it all in. Such a wonderful trip and I will be going again with Ashley!

Itinerary

Day 1

Welcome to Iceland with Michelle and Ashley!

Good morning and welcome to Iceland! Ashley and Michelle will greet you ladies bright and early at the airport with a hug and a big smile! The group will stop for breakfast near the airport before heading to the Blue Lagoon. We’ll then spend the next few hours lookin’ like Mrs. Doubtfire with white, foamy masks on our faces and a glass of wine in our hands while we soak in the warm waters of the Blue Lagoon. Then, we’ll have lunch at the Blue Lagoon cafe before heading to downtown Reykjavik to check into our hotel. You’ll have the rest of the afternoon and evening free. Ashley says goodbye!

(Breakfast & lunch included)

Day 2

Thingvellir National Park, Secret Lagoon & Strokkur

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel we’ll load up and begin our road trip along the south coast with our first stop being Thingvellir National Park. Here you’ll see waterfalls, beautiful landscapes and the point where two tectonic plates meet. After exploring Thingvellir NP, we’ll head to Fridheimar Tomato Farm for a delicious lunch! This restaurant is super unique and an experience that can’t be missed! It’s quite famous, actually – even the Kardashian’s have been spotted here! After lunch we’ll visit the Secret Lagoon and take a dip in Iceland’s oldest natural swimming pool. Then we’ll make a pitstop at Gullfoss waterfall, check out Strokkur (Iceland’s most active geysir) and then check into our swanky digs for the night – Hotel Geysir.

(Breakfast, lunch & dinner included)

Day 6

Gluggafoss Waterfall & Free Time in Reykjavik

This is the last day of road tripping along the south coast! On our way to Reykjavik, we’ll make one last stop at Gluggafoss – a gorgeous two-tiered waterfall. Once we reach the city, we’ll check into our conveniently located downtown hotel and you’ll have the rest of the afternoon free to explore. From our hotel you can easily walk to an abundance of cafes, restaurants, bars, & museums. If you ladies are up for it, I know this awesome little Irish pub with private karaoke rooms where we can unapologetically sing our little hearts out!

(Breakfast included)

Day 7

Free Day in Reykjavik

Enjoy a full FREE day in Reykjavik! Visit museums, shop til you drop, bar hop downtown, soak in the Sky Lagoon or get tattoos! There are so many things to do – the possibilities are endless!

I know we’ve taken a dip in two of Iceland’s famous lagoons already, but there is one more that I highly recommend trying on this free day – the Sky Lagoon! Also, if you’re up for getting tatted in Iceland, I can make arrangements to reserve the shop for a private group tattoo session! I’ve pretty much become besties with the staff at Reykjavik Ink tattoo shop and they already have the heads up that my Travel Girl Gang is coming back this year! At the end of the day the group will link back up for one last meal together before sending everyone off tomorrow!

(Breakfast & dinner included)

Day 8

It’s not goodbye, it’s “see you later!”

You’ll have the morning free to grab breakfast at the hotel, get packed up and ready for transfer to the airport. Most flights leaving Iceland for the US depart in the late afternoon. There will be one private airport transfer arranged in the early afternoon (approximately 2pm but subjected to change depending on the majority of flight departure times). If you need to depart for the airport at a different time than the group, you will be responsible for your own transport. There is a public airport transport system called the FlyBus – it’s super clean, safe and easy to use!

(Breakfast included)

Day 3

Kerid Crater, Waterfall Chasin’ & Reynisfjara Black Sand Beach

Sorry TLC, but we are chasing all the waterfalls in Iceland! After breakfast, we’ll continue our journey along the south coast with our first stop at Kerid Crater. Then we’ll hit two of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls – Seljalandsfoss & Skogafoss. We’ll have lunch at Skogafoss before heading to the Dyrholaey sea cliffs and Reynisfjara black sand beach.

(Breakfast, lunch & dinner included)

Day 4

Svartifoss, Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon & Diamond Beach

After breakfast we’ll continue our road trip heading east. First we’ll stop at Skaftafell National Park and take a short hike to view the unique Svartifoss waterfall which is surrounded by a dramatic wall of basalt columns. Then we’ll continue on to the famous Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon where you’ll see icebergs as big as semi-trucks floating in the lagoon with a massive glacier serving as the backdrop. If you look closely, you’ll be able to spot playful seals swimming around and popping their heads out of the water! It is absolutely stunning – trust me! After, we will pop across the street to the beautiful Diamond Beach – where icebergs from the lagoon wash up on shore. The icebergs look like giant diamonds against the volcanic black sand – this stop is gorgeous and you’re going to be obsessed with this place!

(Breakfast, lunch & dinner included)

Day 5

Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon & Vik

Today we’ll begin our journey back towards Reykjavik. First, we will stop at the gorgeous Fjadrargljufur Canyon! This place is STUNNING and I can’t believe that it didn’t gain much attention until Justin Beiber shot a music video here. After his video was released, they had to shut down the area due to the heavy tourist traffic that the site was not equipped to handle. It’s been back open now for a few years now and I can’t wait to show you! Then we’ll stop in the quaint, picturesque town of Vik for a one night stay before making our way back to Reykjavik the following day. Here you’ll have some free time to explore, go shopping or take advantage of one of the optional add on activities offered – horseback riding, glacier cave tour, or a lava show experience! There’s also a really cute coffee shop called “Skool Beans” that we should try – it’s inside of a renovated school bus!

(Breakfast, lunch & dinner included)
