Ashley Jones in Turkey

The hot air balloon photos went viral a few years ago. Here’s the scoop on what you need to know about the sunrise hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia.
TLDR: Do it, it’s a magical experience that you’ve got to add to your bucket list asap.

Here’s some important things to know before you go: 👇🏼

✨ The hot air balloons fly year round, however flights can sometimes be canceled due to weather. On average, the balloons fly 250 days out of the year and most cancellations happen during the winter months.

✨ The wind conditions are most favorable at sunrise, so most flights will begin around 5:30 am. You can expect the flight to last about an hour.

✨ Cappadocia covers a huge region in Turkey. If you want to experience the hot air balloons, then you’ll want to book your stay in the village of Goreme.

✨ Plan to stay a few days for maximum chances to experience the balloons. I suggest booking a ride on the first morning, so if your flight gets canceled you can try again the following day.

✨ If you can get over the heights, flying in a hot air balloon is actually a really smooth ride and surprisingly a peaceful experience.

✨ Make sure you bring a jacket because it can be quite chilly that early in the morning!

✨ The hot air balloons are the most popular thing to do in Cappadocia, so try to book in advance if possible. There are tons of balloon companies, so be sure to do your research and read reviews. If you’re staying at a hotel in the area, check and see if they can help organize a balloon ride for you!

✨ You can expect that your hot air balloon ride will cost between $200-$300 USD depending on the balloon company, availability and time of year. It’s pricey, but definitely worth it!!
